Key stats for Bernie include 297 career BA, 381 OBP, 287 HRs, 1366 runs, 2336 Hits, 4 GGs in CF, 5-time All Star. There are pretty good regular season stats for only 16 seasons played, but many argue his stats don't measure up to most HOF greats. The argument that should bring Bernie into a serious HOF consideration is his playoff success. Let's not forget Bernie played in 121 career playoff games and won 4 WS championships! It's time for the voters to start giving players more credit for success in the playoffs. Bernie deserves to be inducted.

Let's think about the most important defensive position on the field and level of difficulty. The most important is clearly the pitcher as they're inducted into the HOF solely for their defensive stats. The second most important is the catcher which is arguably the most grueling position putting the most strain on a man's body, especially for those who catch over 130 games each season. Reliable catchers who play above average defense and have caught 1600 plus games in their careers, even those with average offensive stats, should be celebrated and given HOF consideration. Jason Kendall was a 3-time All Star who caught 2025 games ranking 6th all time. Now consider his offense with a 288 career BA, 366 OBP, 189 SBs, 2195 hits, 1030 runs, all in only 15 seasons! Did you know Jason is one of 5 catchers with 2000 games caught and 2000 hits? The other 4 are Ivan Rodriguez, Carlton Fisk, Yadier Molina, and Gary Carter. It's time for the veterans committee to seriously re-think HOF candidacy for our all-time great catchers as they are a dying breed.

A players professional Japanese stats don't get considered by HOF voters. Why not? I'm not suggesting we change the record books for MLB by including them, but let's consider professional stats for a player like Matsui when asking the question "is this man a hall of famer?" Combine his Japanese and MLB stats and see he accumulated over 500 HRs, over 1600 RBI, over 1500 runs, over 2600 hits. Let's also remember his WS MVP. The Japanese HOF inducted Matsui with limited years played in Japan, so why not MLB?

About Everett Scott, Gary C wrote:
Everett Scott is one-of the most underrated players ever , and deserves another consideration for the HOF.

He was BY FAR, the best fielding SS of all time- his career fielding percentage was 24 points higher than the league average when he played. HOF SS Ozzie Smith, Luis Aparicio, and Joe Tinker, all light hitting SS like Scott, had career fielding percentages of only 10-12% above average. From 1916 to 1921 with Boston, Scott posted fielding percentages of 30 points or more higher than the league average every year. That is unheard of, an unparalleled dominant player at his position.

As for WAR and all these other numbers, Scott played on 4 World Series winners, winning 3 with Boston and 1 with NY. That stat speaks more than any other. SS position, along w catcher, is one of the 2 most important defensive positions on the field- no coincidence that teams he was on were winners.

And his record streak of 1307 consecutive games proved his durability. Ironically, he was on the Yankee bench when Gehrig began his streak by pinch hitting for the player who replaced Scott a month before, ending his streak..

Old time players are often overlooked. Scott should be looked at again by the Old Timers Committee.
